The cooling system of subject GE generators is an Open Ventilated one. The Generator rotor fans take air via filters and discharge the air across Stator and Rotor. The air then exits from the generator high pressure region opening in the base to the load coupling compartment thereby cooling it with hot but large airflow. Due to atmospheric/ambient conditions the filters get choked, regardless of the working back pulsation cleaning system. For the first time in known history, an OEM project was awarded to a non-OEM contractor, which is our company MSCL. The project involved new design for charge air coolers, air-cooled heat exchangers, and cooling system; Fabrication and procurement for the system; removal of existing Open Ventilated System; Installation of new system with independent control system and integration to Mark VIe turbine control system; Generator Seal Leakage repair and Bus Ducts Seal installation and repair. Successful testing and commissioning of GT-8, 9 & 10 at Tihama Power Plant, Saudi Electricity Company. |
